One Direction fans go wild after Liam Payne releases his first solo single Strip That Down
THE release of Liam Payne's solo single Strip That Down has prompted a frenzy of excited tweets from One Direction fans, giving their various verdicts on the boy band star's new direction.
The Brit's debut track features US band Quavo and vocals from Ed Sheeran, who co-wrote it after proposing the collaboration with Liam.
Strip That Down has got fans around the globe throwing shapes already, according to social media.
And new dad Liam, who deserted Simon Cowell's label Syco for his solo career, seems to have pleased the vast majority of 1D fans too.
However, despite their joy at the musical gift from Cheryl's baby daddy, 1D fans were a bit perturbed by the lyric: "You know I used to be in 1D, but now I'm out free."
However, overall the funky song has gone down very well indeed.
Scores of fans flooded the site with claims that it's their "new jam", posting dance gifs to express their joy.
But some fans were not all that impressed by the song.
Critics suggested that the track sounds like Liam's trying to be like "a mix of Justin Timberlake and Ed Sheeran", but not in a good way — as well as comparing the hit to Shaggy's music.
And some were bemused that Ed Sheeran had played such a major role in the track.
The ginger superstar is heard singing the song's title in a bass voice, and fans found it hard to ignore his influence generally.
Still, everyone was having a bit of fun with their social media reviews of Strip That Down no matter what they thought of it.
One fan even dragged up with their assessment of the song.
Strip That Down is the first single release from Liam ahead of his debut album, billed as a mix between Justin Bieber and Drake.
It is due out later this year, and promises to be "very different" from band mate Harry Styles' self-titled debut.
