Hans Zimmer reveals unlikely showbiz friends helped him overcome stage fright

OSCAR-winning composer Hans Zimmer has revealed Pharrell Williams and Johnny Marr helped him overcome his crippling stage fright.
At the launch of his new album Hans Zimmer Live – which will be released on March 3 next year – he told how the US singer and former Smiths guitarist had sat him down and talked him through his fears.
Hans said: “A posse of my closest friends sat down in my studio, Pharrell and Johnny.
“They said, ‘You can’t hide behind the screen, eventually you have to look your audience in the eye and have to go and do things in real time’.
“I said, ‘No, I can’t do it, I have stage fright’. They said, ‘We all have stage fright – get over it’.”
Hans, whose film credits include Gladiator, Interstellar and Dunkirk, won an Oscar this year for his work on Dune.

He added: “Pharrell looks at me and goes, ‘I am playing the Grammys this year. Do you want to play guitar for me?’.
“I thought only an idiot would say no to that. So that was the start. A big stage, lots of people. I can do this, I can survive this.”
Hans will be touring a number of cities across the UK next year.
