FORMER Dancing On Ice pro Alex Murphy has suggested that Dancing On Ice won’t work without Torvill and Dean taking part.
The ITV show’s future in currently in doubt after legendary head judges Jayne and Christopher announced that they were retiring and have already filmed their film skate for show.
Now Alex, who was brutally axed from the show in 2020 shortly after winning with Joe Swash – has shared her thoughts on if it’s time it ended and whether it could continue without the main stars.
She told us: “It's quite an iconic show, isn't it? It's like Strictly. It would be really sad to see it go.
“Torvill and Dean, are national treasures. They are fantastic people, and the most iconic skaters in the skating world as a whole, not just England, and I think Britain sometimes doesn't recognize that, or even notice that they are iconic to the world.
“We are obsessed with them in my industry as a skater. I grew up my mother grew up watching them that they are so iconic.

“So it's their show. I just love that. It's their show. So whenever they're ready, I think. Then that's when it will go.”
However Alex – who is now a huge star on TikTok – thinks TV in general has changed, hinting that the format itself might be a bit tired.
“TV's changed now. We're in a social media day and age where people watch clips, then they want instant gratification, and you know, I'm sure it's not the same as it used to be,” she told us.
“But back when Torvill and Dean obviously were skating and choreographing the show and now they're judging the show. It's their baby. I just feel like it's theirs. So I think that nobody really can say anything until they make their decision.”

The show skated onto our screens in 2006, but ended after its ninth run in 2014.
It then returned four years later, as pro skaters Jayne and Christopher opted to swap their role as mentors to be judges.
Asked on GMB this week if the show was set to be axed, Christopher said: "If Dancing On Ice continues, we will just come back as judges.
"But really it is time for us.
"It has been 50 years we've been skating together and it takes its toll on the body - you have to be very disciplined."
Why did Alex Murphy leave Dancing On Ice?

Alex was axed from the show in June 2020 - just months after she won the competition with Joe Swash.
It is not clear why Alex was axed - and at the time she said the news was a "huge shock".
The star has now come to terms with her exit, telling us: “I have such gratitude for the show, because if it wasn't for Dancing on Ice, I would never have been on Celebrity Coach trip. I would never have met my husband. I would never have the amazing life and career that I have now, if it wasn't for that show. Obviously at the time it was devastating, and I was heartbroken.
“I love skating so much, and I've loved it for so many years, and it saved me, and it brought me back from a stroke. When it comes down to it. It's not just, it's not just skating to me.. It was life changing to be on Dancing on Ice, after having heart surgery and almost dying.
“And so for me it was quite a monumental part of my life. I can see pros and cons to having left the show and staying on the show. I just feel like the universe works in mysterious ways, and that's how it worked for me, and it was the best thing that ever happened to me.”
