While regular contributor Carol Vorderman said: “Wishing you and your family peace and strength in what must be a very difficult time after the news of last week Holly x from my time on TM, I know that the team will miss you very much. Take care.”

Craig Doyle, who has recently joined Holly wrote: "We are so supportive of you and we love you to bits, we just wish it didn’t end this way. Its a sad day for everyone."

TV cook Juliet Sear added: "So sad to see you go Holly wishing you loads of positive things for your new chapter.

"I am so grateful for everything you have given me, I love you so much darling beautiful Holly, the sunshine of our days."

Holly announced tonight that she is stepping down from presenting This Morning after 14 years on the ITV show.

The TV star, 42, said it was an "honour to just be part of its story" but that she feels "I have to make this decision for me and my family" in a social media post.

It comes after a 36-year-old man - Gavin Plumb - was questioned by detectives last week about an alleged plot to kidnap Holly.

In a post to Instagram, she wrote: "I have let ITV know today that after 14 years, I will not be returning to This Morning.

"This is such a difficult goodbye, you are incredible and I forever will be proud of what we've done together.I will not be returning to This Morning.

"Thank you to everyone at ITV for being supportive. To every guest who has sat on our sofa, thank you.

"Most of all, thank you to the wonderful viewers. You've been so loyal so supportive and the very best company every day.

"Richard and Judy said 'we only look after this show, it will always belong to the viewers'.

"It's been an honour to just be part of its story and I know this story has many chapters left to go.

"Sadly, however, I now feel I have to make this decision for me and my family. I will miss you all so much. Holly."

She was said to likely to be absent from This Morning for weeks and pulled out of a red carpet event in London this week.

Holly was put under 24-hour surveillance when details of the alleged plot emerged.

Bosses at This Morning were alerted to the alleged plot on Thursday morning and the presenter decided to pull out shortly before she was due on air.

This week it was reported Holly tried to mend her rift with former co-host Phillip Schofield in May when he left This Morning over an affair with a young colleague.

Plumb was denied bail by district judge Caroline Jackson and will appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on November 3.
