THIS is the dramatic moment a roof was blown off a London café narrowly missing a man walking by.
CCTV footage shows a man walk past the Stokey Vintage Café in Stoke Newington, North London as gale force winds battered the capital yesterday.
A moment later, the brick roof came crashing down onto the pavement leaving a pile of debris.
A white car is then seen swerving out of the way as a dust cloud from the brick blankets the street.
The partially-collapsed building on the high street in Hackney has now been deemed unsafe and been sealed off.
The London Fire Brigade attended the scene and confirmed no one was hurt, but the clean-up took almost two hours.
The carnage came as Britain was battered by 65mph winds as Storm Gareth looks set to wreak havoc across the UK.
The Met Office has warned blustery conditions are set to continue this week and urged commuters to be cautious while travelling.
Tuesday will be cold and rainy with severe gales on coastal areas and high grounds with speeds up to 75mph with Northern Ireland and the Republic the worst affected.
Those gale force winds and rain will continue as they move across England and Wales affecting most parts on Wednesday.
The Met Office also warns of short-term power loss and for coastal areas to be affected by spray and large waves.
Gale force winds tore through London over the weekend, ripping down scaffolding and uprooting trees.
A tree was uprooted outside Clapham South tube station yesterday morning while other parts of London saw some rain and hail.
Gloucester Road tube station was closed after heavy winds caused scaffolding to fall onto a glass roof.
Many on Facebook were relieved no one was hurt.
One said: “Sheer luck that noone was underneath it.”
Another added: “Thank god no one was walking underneath.”
