One man was quickly flown to Royal Stoke University Hospital suffering from "potentially serious injuries", while three other men, who sustained minor injuries, were taken to the same hospital by ambulance.

The first call came in shortly before 11am today, West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed.

The trust then deployed an ambulance and paramedic officer, alongside a helicopter from the Midlands Air Ambulance at Cosford.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: "We were called to reports of a one car RTC at a location off Farley Lane in Alton at 10.55am.

"We sent an ambulance, a paramedic officer, the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford and two Community First Responders to the scene.

"On arrival, crews found four men. The first of whom, a passenger, was treated for potentially serious injuries and conveyed by air ambulance to Royal Stoke University Hospital.

"The three other patients were treated for minor injuries and conveyed by land ambulance to Royal Stoke University Hospital for further treatment.”

Staffordshire Police explained, however, that it was a pedestrian taken to hospital with injuries, not a passenger.

Cops added their injuries were "not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing".

In a statement, police said: "We were called at 11am this morning (Thursday 29 May) to Alton Towers car park following reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.

"Officers attended the scene alongside colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service.

"The pedestrian was taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life threatening or life changing.

"The driver of the car and two passengers were also taken to hospital with minor injuries."

An Alton Towers Resort Spokesperson said "Emergency services were called to attend a road traffic collision involving a single vehicle on a guest access route into the Resort.

"The occupants of the vehicle were treated at the scene before being taken offsite for further assessment."

The road has since reopened.
