A SECTION of a busy Scottish motorway has reopened following an eight-hour hunt for a man was spotted with a possible weapon.

The M8 was shut at junction 6 eastbound for Newhouse and Chapelhall in North Lanarkshire after the alarm was raised at 8.55am.

Cops carried out a search of the area, and specialist officers also in attended as a precaution.

No update has been given on the search for the man, but Traffic Scotland confirmed just before 5pm the road had reopened.

The incident had caused traffic chaos and tailbacks in the area.

A picture from the scene showed long queues of traffic gridlocked on the slip road.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said earlier: "Around 8.55am on Monday, 3 February, 2025, we received a report of a man with a possible weapon on the M8 slip road at junction 6 eastbound.

"Police are in attendance and a search of the area is being carried out.

"Specialist officers are also in attendance, as a precaution, and extensive enquiries are ongoing."
