Man in his 40s dies after car ‘enters the sea’ in late-night horror at Isle of Wight village

A MAN in his 40s has died after his car "entered the sea" in a late-night horror incident in an Isle of Wight village.
Police were alerted to the scene involving a Ford Mondeo on Shore Road, Gurnard, at 11.28pm on Saturday.
RNLI lifeboats participated in an extensive search once it was reported a car had gone into the water, including a coastguard helicopter from Lee-on-the-Solent.
A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson however said the driver was pronounced dead at the scene and that an investigation is underway.
He said: “We are appealing for witnesses following a fatal incident on the Isle of Wight last night (30 November).
“Police were called at 11.28pm on Saturday 30 November to a report that a car had entered the water near Shore Road, Gurnard.

“The driver of a Ford Mondeo – a man in his 40s from Ryde – was the only person inside the vehicle and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene."
The man's next of kin have been informed.
The spokesperson also confirmed officers are carrying out enquiries to establish the exact circumstances of the incident.
