Who said Kamala’s family owned slaves in Jamaica?

In June and July 2019, social media users shared reports that claimed one of Harris's ancestors was a slave owner in Jamaica.

The slave owner claim intensified after Donald Trump Jr tweeted that Harris wasn't African-American but indeed half Indian and half Jamaican.

Right-leaning website posted what it claimed were the names of Harris's ancestors alongside a message that read:

"Democrat presidential candidate Kamala Harris is descended from Irish slave owner Hamilton Brown, the namesake of Brown’s Town in Jamaica, who recruited massive numbers of Irish migrants to Jamaica to work on his sugar plantations after the British empire abolished slavery.”

Other right-leaning blogs and websites posted similar reports.

Fact-checking resource published that they were "unable to verify that a line of descent exists between the modern-day Harris family and the 19th-century slave owner."

"As such, the claim that an ancestor of Sen. Harris owned slaves in Jamaica remains unproven."

Many thought Harris labeled Biden a racist after the pair squared off in a primary debate.

The exchange came after Biden boasted about being able to work with senators he disagreed with, including ones who supported segregation.

Harris did not call Biden, 81, racist and even stated before she made the remarks in question that she doesn’t think he’s racist.

“I do not believe you are a racist, and I agree with you when you commit yourself to the importance of finding common ground," she said.

“But I also believe, and it's personal, and it was hurtful to hear you talk about the reputations of two United States senators who (have) built their reputations and career on the segregation of race in this country."

Who is Kamala married to?

Douglas Emhoff, 59, is the Harris' husband.
